Using a series of joysticks, levers, and pedals, crane operators use their knowledge of load calculations to place materials around a construction site. Crane Operators operate outside, often on 10-hour shifts.

Qualifications: Crane Operators have a good sense of balance, ability to judge distances and strong eye-hand-foot coordination. They are also comfortable with technology and have basic math skills.

Education: Most employers require a high school diploma or equivalent and one or two years of classroom and on-the-job training. Professionals handling toxic chemicals or other dangerous equipment must receive specialized training in safety awareness and procedures. Currently, 17 states have laws requiring crane operators to be licensed with written and skills test.
