WASHINGTON, D.C. - The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) is proud to announce that it has joined the Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) program.

TRANSCAER® is a voluntary national outreach effort that educates and assists first responders in communities near transportation routes on how to prepare for and respond to a possible hazardous material transportation incident.

“Our member companies are committed to sharing their safe practices throughout the refining and petrochemical industries and working with TRANSCAER will allow us to share them with a much larger audience,” said AFPM President and CEO Chet Thompson. “Providing a safe work environment for our employees and the communities in which we operate is embedded in our culture, which is why being a part of TRANSCAER is such a natural fit.”

“We are happy to welcome AFPM onboard as a new national sponsor. Members of AFPM ship products by a variety of modes of transportation that are the focus of TRANSCAER’s safety training events held throughout the country,” said Keith Silverman, chairman of the National TRANSCAER Task Group and vice president global operations, quality and EHS at Ashland. “Our TRANSCAER Team is looking forward to working with AFPM, and our other dedicated volunteers, to help ensure our communities are prepared for possible hazardous materials transportation incidents.”

AFPM is committed to the mission of TRANSCAER, which is to promote the safe transportation and handling of hazardous materials, educate and assist communities near major transportation routes about hazardous materials, and aid community emergency response planning for hazardous material transportation incidents.
