WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) proudly announces the recipients of its 2025 Annual Safety Awards, the industry’s most respected recognition of occupational and process safety excellence. Guided by AFPM’s Safety and Health Committee, these awards reflect the industry’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, safe and reliable operations, and a culture that puts people first—honoring facilities that consistently demonstrate outstanding safety performance.

It happens because of the commitment and hard work of our member companies and associates, from top to bottom throughout their organizations. The highest honor, the Distinguished Safety Award, is awarded to the top sites with outstanding safety performance, program innovation, and safety leadership. This honor is awarded to five facilities for achieving a sustained, exemplary level of safety performance: ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company—Baton Rouge Polymers North, LyondellBasell Industries—Matagorda Complex MTO, Marathon Petroleum Corporation—Michigan Refining Division and Phillips 66—Ponca City Refinery and Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex.

The Elite Platinum Award recognizes sites that have demonstrated superior program innovation and leadership over time. Six sites are being honored with this award: Marathon Petroleum Corporation—Mandan Refinery and St. Paul Park Refinery; Phillips 66—Ferndale Refinery and Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex and Valero Energy Corporation—Port Arthur Refinery and McKee Refinery.

The Elite Gold Award recognizes facilities with safety performances in the top five percentile and that have demonstrated superior and consistent safety performance, program innovation and leadership. Fifteen facilities are receiving Elite Gold Awards this year: Cheniere Energy—Corpus Christi LNG, LLC; Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP—Borger Plant and Pasadena Plastics Complex; ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company—Baton Rouge Integrated Complex, Baytown Refinery, Beaumont Chemical Plant, Beaumont Polyethylene Plant, Beaumont Refinery and Joliet Refinery; HF Sinclair Corporation—Puget Sound Refinery; LyondellBasell Industries—Bayport Polymers Plant, Corpus Christi Operations and Lake Charles Polymers Plant; Phillips 66—Billings Refinery; Valero Energy Corporation—Houston Refinery.

The Elite Silver Award acknowledges sites that have attained top industry safety performance for the application year and demonstrated excellent program innovation and leadership over time. This award recognizes the top ten percentile of industry safety and is being awarded to 22 facilities: Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP—Bartlesville-Research and Technology Center, Cedar Bayou Chemical Complex, Drilling Specialties Conroe Plant and Orange Plant; ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company—Gulf Coast Growth Ventures; HF Sinclair Corporation —Cheyenne Renewable Diesel Facility, El Dorado Refinery and Tulsa Refinery; INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA—Battleground Manufacturing Complex and Carson Polypropylene Plant; INVISTA—Longview Polypropylene Facility and Orange Site; LyondellBasell Industries—Chocolate Bayou Polymers Plant; Oxea Corporation—Bay City Plant; Phillips 66—Los Angeles Refinery; Placid Refining Company—Placid Refining Company LLC; TPC Group—Lake Charles Operations and Port Neches Operations; Valero Energy Corporation—Diamond Green Diesel Renewables New Orleans, St. Charles Refinery and Wilmington Refinery; and W. R. Grace & Co.—Lake Charles Site.

The AFPM Innovation Awards recognize refineries, petrochemical facilities and their contractors that have developed unique and innovative programs or practices that effectively improve the site’s safety performance for occupational safety, process safety or industrial hygiene. Four sites have the honor of receiving the award this year. Flint Hills Resources, LLC—Pine Bend Refinery for Process Safety innovations; Phillips 66—Ponca City Refinery for Occupational Safety; Valero Energy Corporation—Three Rivers Refinery for Industrial Hygiene and Turner Industries Group for Industrial Hygiene as a contractor.

Seven Innovation Award Honorable Mentions were awarded: Cheniere Energy—Sabine Pass LNG, LLC and Marathon Petroleum Corporation—Garyville Refinery for Process Safety innovations; ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company—Baton Rouge Integrated Complex, ExxonMobil Medicine and Occupational Health, Corporate and Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Corporate for Industrial Hygiene; and LyondellBasell Industries—Victoria Plant and Phillips 66—Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex for Occupational Safety.

In addition, 111 operating members received Safety Achievement Awards and 231 Contractor Safety Achievement Awards were presented in recognition of the outstanding service provided to member companies throughout the year.
