The latest job numbers out today (Friday, September 7th) once again paint a rosy picture of the U.S. economy – 201,000 jobs were added in August, above expectations, and wages continued to increase.
As American manufacturers champion their contributions to economic competitiveness and product innovation today, the industry has yet another reason to celebrate – U.S. manufacturing employment is still on the rise.
There aren’t many production facilities in the country more secure than refineries. Leaders in the fuel and petrochemical industries pride themselves on workplace safety and security, which is evident based on even a cursory glance at any AFPM member’s annual security report.
AFPM members including fuel manufacturers, petrochemical manufacturers and service providers (e.g., construction, technology and consulting firms) are seeking skilled employees for a range of positions.
What comes next for returning service members varies greatly. For McNeill and Harbin, both found rewarding work that instilled pride in them not too dissimilar from what they felt serving their country - in the fuel refining and petrochemical industries.
Our members continuously look for opportunities to enhance safety and recognize that an effective way to improve process safety performance throughout the industry is to learn from one other. Advancing Process Safety is a collection of programs that provide the industry with more frequent and effective opportunities to share experiences and knowledge.
AFPM collects occupational injury and illness data from all regular member refining and petrochemical sites in the U.S. annually. The information collected is from the OSHA 300A Summary Log for both company employees and contractors (contractor aggregate). This data is used to compile the AFPM Survey of Occupational Injuries & Illnesses (I&I Survey). Sites that submit data may be eligible for AFPM Safety Awards.
