WASHINGTON, D.C. – American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers President Chet Thompson responded today to the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed Refinery Sector Rule:

“We are pleased with EPA’s multi-year assessment of our facilities that found them to be well under the threshold level for causing risk and do not cause harm to surrounding communities. But, in spite of its findings, EPA did not take its own analysis into account when finalizing this rule. We are disappointed, however, that the agency felt compelled to require additional expensive and unnecessary controls, which won’t result in any real benefits.

AFPM is still in the process of reviewing this lengthy rule and our next move will be dictated by our findings.”
