AFPM Letter to House Leadership on Regulatory Reform

The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), a national trade association representing more than 97 percent of U.S. refiners and the majority of petrochemical manufacturers, strongly supports regulatory reform that enhances the transparency, accountability, and efficacy of federal regulations.

Petition for Waiver of 2016 Cellulosic Biofuel Volumetric Requirements

AFPM filed the attached petition requesting that EPA waive the 2016 RFS cellulosic volumes to avoid “phantom fuel” compliance payments arising from a shortfall in 2016 cellulosic production.  AFPM estimates that a favorable decision on this petition would reduce payments for these non-existent fuels by $50-75 million.

WASHINGTON – The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) today responded to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) release of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO) for 2017 with the following statement from AFPM President Chet Thompson:

AFPM Applauds EPA’s Decision to Seek Comment on Point of Obligation Petition

AFPM President Chet Thompson comments:  “We are pleased that EPA made the extraordinary decision to seek public comment on our point of obligation petition, which they would not have done unless they saw merit in our position. We are confident that after going through this process the agency will agree that moving the point of obligation will improve the program until such time that Congress either repeals or reforms this badly flawed law.”
