AFPM believes the United States chemicals regulatory framework provides a solid foundation for protecting the health of consumers and the environment, while simultaneously allowing for the development of products to enhance health, safety and the environment. That framework is being jeopardized by proposals calling for significant changes to the Toxic Substances Control Act Reauthorization.

In recent years, certain interest groups have called for a dramatic overhaul of TSCA. Some legislative proposals introduced in the last two sessions of Congress could threaten to further damage America’s already fragile manufacturing base.

These bills, if enacted, would give EPA unprecedented authority over the American economy by allowing the agency to make decisions on what materials can and cannot be used in manufacturing without requiring scientific justification for those decisions.

AFPM acknowledges that improvements can be made to TSCA and supports responsible modernization of our nation’s chemical safety laws, but warns that dramatic changes to TSCA would jeopardize U.S. innovation and competitiveness and send American jobs overseas.
