    About the AFPM Outreach Program

AFPM Outreach is an advocacy initiative to impact policy discussions and decisions on critical industry issues that affect U.S. consumers and businesses, jobs and the economy. By focusing on the home districts and states of key elected officials, we are developing local relationships and creating a coalition of traditional and non-traditional allies. These industry "ambassadors" communicate policy goals to elected officials and their staffs "back home," helping them understand how their policy decisions impact consumers' and voters' daily lives.

    Take Action

Recently, President Obama denied the application for construction of the Keystone XL pipeline expansion, a project that could significantly benefit the American economy and our nation’s energy security.  We hope you will take a few moments to make your voice heard in support of this important project.

The proposed Keystone XL pipeline expansion would add more than 700,000 barrels per day to existing pipeline capacity – strengthening our nation’s energy security by providing American refiners greater access to stable, reliable crude oil supplies from our North American ally Canada, and reducing our nation’s dependence on imported oil from unstable regions of the world.  In addition, according to independent studies, the Keystone XL project would create nearly 20,000 shovel-ready, high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs in the United States, stimulate more than $20 billion in new spending for the U.S. economy, and support more than 80,000 American jobs by the year 2020.

The President’s own Jobs Council stated in its 2011year-end report that “policies that facilitate the safe, thoughtful and timely development of pipeline, transmission and distribution projects are necessary to facilitate the delivery of America’s fuel and electricity and maintain the reliability of our nation’s energy system.” We encourage you to take action today by submitting a letter to President Obama urging him to reconsider his position and support the Keystone XL pipeline project.
